Big surprise

In August I put two amaryllis bulbs in my fridge to force bloom them.

When I brought them out and planted them, I found that one of them didn't do nothing while the other was showing signs of life after three weeks.

I thought the "silent" one could not perform this season. However, to my surprise, just yesterday I found this on the bulb.

Guess nature can never fail to bring you big surprise when it can, right?

Ah, amaryllis. I remember how mine would play hide'n'seek every year, causing me to fret. Finally I just let them do what they wanted when they wanted and was always blessed with huge blooms. I never put them in the 'fridge though, just potted up dormant bulbs in early spring. Hope yours bloom for you soon! :-D

Kris, in our warm climate, amaryllis never go to sleep; they would stay green all the time. And consequently we will never have blooms from them, unless we "force" them.
I do that every year when I want to have blooms in my Saigon garden. But in Dalat where the weather is much cooler, the plants take care of themselves :-)

Steph: me, too, although I have many bulbs blooming every year. Guess it's just normal for gardeners to fuss with their plants.
